So
I did it! I downloaded the Couch 2 5K (C25K)
app, cost was $1.99 from the App Store.
I struggled a bit with getting started on my iPhone, only because I’m
not always tech savvy, not because the app is hard to use. So got it working, chose my trainer (her name
is Billie) and played some motivational music, I called my playlist “Make Me
Happy”. My first workout consisted of a
5 minute walking warm-up, followed by alternating 1 minute of jogging with 1 ½
minutes of walking (total 20 minutes), ending with a cool down (I think it was
5 minutes). I burned 232 calories! The program calls for three workouts a week. I'll probably do most of mine on the weekend - the week is so full of kid stuff and work.
Okay
– now how did it feel? It hurt!! I thought about calling my hubby to come pick me up. I haven’t had a stitch in my side for a
long time, and I didn't miss it – but I pushed through every interval, proud of
myself for that. My left knee hurt a
bit, and so did my hips, I felt older than my age. I am confident, as I get lighter and fit that
these issues will go away or at least get better. I have never been a runner and don’t get any
joy from it (what is that runner’s high they speak of). Maybe some day I will experience this and
actually like running – right now, not so much.
My joke is that the only time you’ll see me running is if someone is
chasing me with a knife!
It
was beautiful outside tonight about 50 degrees and the sun was shining with
blue skies. I wore Nike yoga pants and a
sweatshirt; I was actually pretty warm by the end of the workout. I snapped a picture of what I think were
geese flying above, according to all the honking going on, it also shows how far I ran today using the Nike app. I like to keep all of my workouts on the Nike
app. It uses a foot pod (I wear Nike
Frees Run+ and the pod slips right under the insole.
The pod and the app are synced together.
That way I’ll have all my workouts even after I am done using the C25K
app. I like to look back at the history
and see where I’ve improved.
Tomorrow
(Sunday) I think we’re going to get our Christmas tree!
